Sharing My Personal Financial Goals for 2024
8 Jan 2024 – Welcome back to RE.planning life. As the new year has just started, I think it is a good time for me to share my personal financial goals for the year.
- Complete transition to part time role at my current job
- This should be the most achievable and most within my control
- Fully ship my game
- Working only 2 days a week for about 6 to 9 months, this can be quite a tight deadline
- Shipping the game does not only involve creating the game, but also marketing and selling it, possibly building a community around it too.
- This goal is important to make sure i scope the game to a reasonable size.
- As it would be my first commercial product, I do not expect it to make much money. It would be more of a learning experience so that I can do better for my next bigger game. Therefore I am not setting a sales target for it.
- Keep expenses within my expected passive income ~$4k a month.
- Should be doable, as my historical expenses have not been that high.
- I am comparing against expected passive income instead of actual since there is high variability in expected returns from my equity portfolio
- Increase my net worth by $100k
- This is the most ambitious goal, and largely out of my control
- This is what I project would happen if I kept my full time job
- However since I will be lowering my income from my job, I would only achieve it if the markets happen to perform better than expected
- Alternatively if my game happens to sell much better than I expect, I may reach this goal too
