RE.planning Life: A New Chapter Begins

2024 Jan 1 – Welcome to my personal blog, RE.planning Life! Here, I will be sharing my thoughts and views on personal finance and living a good life. As an aspiring solo game developer who is currently working towards early retirement, I hope to provide insights and inspiration to others who share similar goals.

For my very first post, I am sharing my motivations for starting this blog

Commitment Device

My primary objective for this blog is to help maintain accountability for my life goals. I am in the process of moving to a part-time capacity within the next 2 months, at the same organization and role that I am currently in. I plan to use the time freed up from my full time role to pursue solo game development. Sharing my goals publicly would help keep me on track and consistent.

Personal Finance

The ‘RE’ in the name of my blog is in reference to ‘Retire Early’, usually used in the acronym ‘FIRE’. I have the option of moving into a part time role with my employer younger than most because I have built sufficient savings and investments to generate passive income that covers my expenses. This has been a personal interest from a young age, and learnt topics on this area for a long time.

I would like to contribute and share what I learnt and figured out, especially tailored to residents of Singapore where I live. I also hope to document my journey in learning more in this area, my progress in reaching my financial goals, and how it affects the way I live.

Living Well

I would also be sharing another of my personal interests is on how live my best life. This is about feeling good about how I lived when looking back in the future, minimizing how much I would regret my decisions. Money and personal finance is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to living a fulfilling life. But there are many other aspects of our lives are actually more important once there is sufficient money for basic expenses.
